The Srima area in Chiang Rai Province, northern Thailand, is home to around 5,000 people from two ethnic communities. Strict government regulations have helped preserve its rich natural environment and traditional ways of life. However, these same restrictions can also limit local economic opportunities. To help balance environmental and cultural preservation with economic development, Taiwanese nonprofit organization CPDP supports sustainable regional development through coffee production while respecting Srima’s unique character.

Alan from CPDP met coffee producers Joe and Mild at a coffee symposium held at a university in Chiang Rai. CPDP is a charitable initiative that funds its projects through proceeds from the coffee it helps produce and sell, as well as individual donations. Since 2023, CPDP has supported local coffee producers by providing new processing facilities, technical training, and assistance in connecting producers directly with international buyers. Its community initiatives also extend beyond coffee production, including the installation of LED lighting in the village to help prevent accidents and injuries.

The coffee is grown in a tropical rainforest climate, characterized by abundant rainfall and a pronounced difference between day and night temperatures. These conditions allow the coffee cherries to mature slowly, developing greater sweetness. This lot underwent 24 hours of dry fermentation, followed by 48 hours of wet fermentation with floral steam distillation. The result is an elegant cup with an intense floral aroma of rose, accompanied by sweet, lingering notes of hibiscus and lychee.
